Leaf Mulch

I indulged in some dreaming about growing things yesterday when I called Garden District to inquire about compost. As soon as the freezing nights (and yes,  more snow is predicted for tomorrow) are over I want to amend my tiny garden beds with some compost and start planting again. They had leaf mulch and topsoil with horse manure in it. What is best? I dont’ have my own compost bc I haven’t started collecting it – not sure that would work in a shared household, plus I don’t have a place to “compost it” really. So….ideas?

Why couldn’t we have had a SNOWDRAGON in our neighborhood for the storm? Instead, nature taking its course resulted in the lingering crusty snowbanklets infested with wet dutch master’s butts, skoal containers, candy wrappers and granulated dog turds?

view out back window – note giant “ice tumor” hanging from our electrical wires. it was swaying in the rather strong wind and i’m a little worried. side note related to the gardening theme of this blog – THE BACK YARD IS STILL COVERED IN 3 FEET OF SNOW! and it’s not melting as it faces north … .

Today’s Forecast

* WINDS...WINDS WILL BECOME NORTHWEST AND INCREASE TO 20 TO 30
MPH WITH GUSTS AROUND 45 MPH. BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL
REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO BETWEEN ONE QUARTER OF A MILE OR LESS
AT TIMES...PRODUCING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.

This is my 6th day in the house...third day home from work....
